It's your space, dream big.

These are the words I've repeatedly heard from my administration over the past couple of weeks. It's been quite exciting imagining and reimagining all the possibilities for the library learning commons I currently work in. That being said, knowing the impermanence of my position and the time it takes to redesign the library learning commons, I know that I won't be able to do it all. However, the administrative support as being fantastic.

One of the projects I am currently working on is getting new bookshelves on wheels. Our library learning commons already has tables and chairs on wheels that can easily be moved around for different learning activities. I think lower bookshelves on wheels will maximize the light from the skylight on one end of the library.

In addition to this, I am in the process of developing a library learning commons leadership team. During the Teacher Librarian Part 3 course, I did my inquiry project on developing a library learning commons leadership teams. I've already reached out to staff to see who might be interested in getting involved. My next steps are to use the rubrics in Leading Learning to assess where our library learning commons is currently at so we can set appropriate and realistic goals for where we would like to see it go.

Another project I am currently working on is developing a sign up system for students using the library during lunch time. While this isn't exactly a library re-design in the sense we've been discussing, it's a re-design for the space during Co-vid 19.

I think there are lots of opportunities and possibilities for me in my new position. I add new ideas to my idea board every few days but also prioritize what is important. One step at a time, one dream at a time.
