Guest Speakers

Lisa Gunderson (not found through Skype) Topic: Anti-racism & Social Justice

How would this be relevant for my school community? A quote that came up during the BCTLA conference back in October that has remained with me and will likely influence all of the decisions I make as an educator, regardless of which role I am in. “Equity is not something we do once in a while, but rather the lens through which we intentionally plan and carry out our vision of the school library.” In order to encourage our students to be open-minded and stand against systematic racism of Indigenous, Black and People of Colour in Canada I think we need to start/continue having conversations about race. Lisa Gunderson is a motivational speaker, professor, and founder of One Love Consulting. She has some great resources on her website for educators and I am hoping to have her do a virtual Guest Speaker session with us. For more information, click here.

Chandni Agarwal

Topic: Cyber Security for Teens

How would this be relevant for my school community?

Cyberbullying is an issue my school community continually deals with, as is the case with many other high schools. In this session, students will learn about Cybersecurity and how the acceleration of technology use effects our mental health. For more information, click here.

Virtual Field Trips

Do You See Me Like I See Me?: Cultural Perspectives in Western American Art.

How would this be relevant for my school community?

This field trip would work well in an visual arts classroom, social studies or a language arts classroom. I think the universality of exploring how “culture, individuality, technique, and place in history” influences a product/creation touches on various Big Ideas in the BC curriculum. Journey to Space

How would this be relevant for my school community? This would be a great field trip opportunity for various courses such as math, physics, design & innovation, history and economics. For more information, click here.
